It is now possible to apply for AEO by an online application. HM Revenue & Customs launched a new possibility to apply for the status of the AEO online.
Since October 9th, 2007 it is possible to apply for the status of an AEO by an online tool directly at the page of HM Revenue & Customs in London. It provides an interactive form that offers links to the guidance notes for completing the relevant questions.
The amendment to the Community Customs Code (the Security Amendment), adopted by the European Parliament in April 2005, allows Customs authorities to grant the status of AEO to any business that satisfies EU criteria. Member States successfully voted on the detailed legal provisions to implement the concept on 23 October 2006 and AEO status will become effective from 1 January 2008.
